In honor of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, new markers were installed on the graves of 20 Carlisle patriots who fought in the American Revolution. On Sunday, October 27, dedication ceremonies were held at both the Central Burying Ground and the Green Cemetery. As part of both ceremonies, the Old Concord Chapter (OCC) Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Regent placed a wreath by their graves.
Many of the Carlisle patriots were at Old North Bridge on April 19, 1775, and occupied Dorchester Heights on March 4, 1776, under the command of George Washington contributing to the withdrawal of British troops from Boston on March 17, 1776. Many patriots also participated in the battles at Fort Ticonderoga.
The ceremonies were a combined effort of Carlisle’s Historical Society, Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), Old Concord Chapter DAR, Concord Fife & Drum, Carlisle’s 250th Committee, Carlisle’s DPW, Minutemen, Select Board, Police Department, and Scout Troop 135.
