DAR awards grant
The Old Concord Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) recently awarded a $500 Historic Preservation Grant to the Boxborough Historical Society.
The Grant will be used to repair and restore the front doorway and threshold of the 1784 Levi Wetherbee (Steele) farmhouse on Middle Road in Boxborough. Old Concord Chapter’s Regent Charlene Goddard-Lyle presented the check to Jeanne Kangas, Boxborough Historical Society President, in a brief ceremony attended by several DAR members at the farmhouse. “Preserving and restoring this farmhouse that was built and was the home of one of Boxborough’srevolutionary patriots is important for our Chapter, “said Goddard-Lyle. "We are proud of the Town and the Boxborough Historical Society for saving the farmhouse from decay and deterioration.” The farmhouse is on the National Register of Historic Places. It was built by patriot Levi Wetherbee, who with his father Silas Wetherbee fought in the American Revolutionary war. The Grant enables the Steele Farm Advisory Committee to hire a capable local carpenter to repair and restore the doorway threshold and protect the farmhouse interior from water infiltration and damage. The work to protect the doorway is expected to begin immediately. |
