Concord DAR honor Memorial with poppies *

Old Concord Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution left to right Sharyn Lenhart, Brooke de Lench, Lee Flight, Kristina Joyce, Regent Janine Penfield, Alice Galinat, Debbie Vardaro in front of Concord’s WWII Memorial with their wreath having red poppies in memory of fallen soldiers.

   The Old Concord Chapter (OCC) Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) regent, Janine Penfield, at the War memorials in Concord Center placed a Wreath with red poppies in memory of all of those fallen during military service.  At the end of the Concord Center ceremony the daughters distributed copies of the poem, "In Flanders Fields” and red poppies.
   At the request of the OCC DAR John McCrae’s poem, "In Flanders Fields”, was read after the Roll of Honor in Concord Center.  The poem has come to symbolize the sacrifice those in battle make. The red poppies in the poem are a symbol of all those fallen in battle.     
   McCrae a US ally Canadian Forces Lieutenant Colonel Surgeon wrote “In Flanders Fields” after burying his

 comrade in Flanders Fields.  In 1918, US military forceswere sent to France and fallen American soldiers are buried in a 6-acre area of Flanders Fields.   Red poppies have come to symbolize our fallen and allied fallen.  
   In West Concord a bouquet of flowers was laid by the Kenneth Dunn Memorial by the Old Concord Chapter Regent, Jenine Penfield.
   The OCC DAR covers the towns of Concord, Carlisle, Stow, Littleton, Maynard, Acton, and Boxborough.   We also attract members from other places to be part of the Old Concord Chapter.  For more information on the Old Concord Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution see www.oldconcorddar.org .
